Integrated Water Resources Management - IWRM Zayandeh Rud - Iran - BMBF - Isfahan - Closing Conference [22.11.2018]

IWRM Zayandeh Rud Closing Conference

The IWRM Zayandeh Rud project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, ends with a two-day final conference in Isfahan in December. 200 participants are expected to inform themselves about the project results and discuss possible future joint activities.

In 2010 the project on integrated water resource management started under the name IWRM Isfahan. The objective of the project was to develop sustainable water management in the catchment area of Zayandeh Rud, the most important river in central Iran, which was severely affected by water shortage. The first phase served to get to know the catchment area and its most important water management actors and institutions, to collect data and define necessary instruments as well as a concept for integrated water resource management.

Following the completion of this work in spring 2015, the second phase has been concerned with the implementation of this IWRM concept. In various pilot projects, solutions for more efficient water use and wastewater reuse in various sectors have been developed, new technologies tested, recommendations given on agricultural transformation and organisational development, computer-based models developed and training measures carried out. During the conference, the most important products will be officially presented and a German-Iranian educational center will be opened.
