DEMAPLAN – Demand-oriented water management: Presentation by Mohamed Badran at the 4th Best Practices Conference of ACWUA (Arab Countries Water Utilities Association) in Sharm El Sheikh – Egypt [22.11.2011]
Demand-driven water management for the Arab World
Water and wastewater companies in the Arab countries in most cases work supply- oriented, which often causes a neglect of demand. A reform process will only be successful though if the demand as well as the supply are both being considered for the planning and management procedures.
In the context of the 4th Best Practices Conference in Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt), Mohamed Badran presents the concept of DEMAPLAN which has been developed by inter 3 for the evaluation and management of the water demand in the Arab World. Crucial to the concept is the identification of socio-demographic, economic, climatic and technical drivers of water demand.
The conference which takes place from 7 – 8 December 2011 is organised by the ACWUA (Arab Countries Water Utilities Association). The focus of this year’s conference is on the reform process of Arab water and wastewater companies.
