At the German-Iranian Economic Forum which took place in Tehran on May 3rd under the direction of the Parliamentary State Secretary Uwe Beckmeyer, the water sector was one of the main issues.

As member of the GWP board of directors and head of its Iran section, Dr. Shahrooz Mohajeri together with the German Environmental Ministry (BMUB) had organized the panel discussion on water and environment.

Germany is one of Iran’s main trading partners, and particularly in the water and wastewater sector both countries have maintained close relations for years. Not least the German Ministry of Education and research (BMBF) has continuously been supporting technology and know-how transfer even during the times of sanctions.

German Economic Minister Gabriel, who had to cancel his envisaged trip to Tehran, said: “I’m aware that a revitalization of German Iranian economic relations is a long process. The facilitations of trade that have now come into effect are a good basis to get this process going. It means we can open up a new chapter in the German Iranian economic relations.”
