In the course of the “Development of sustainable land use strategies for climate change adaptation in the lower reaches of the Zayandeh Rud River in Iran” project, the first of three workshops for the participatory development of an action plan was realized.

inter 3 implements the project on behalf of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in the framework of the International Climate Initiative (IKI). Following the „Harvard Negotiation Project“ approach, a common perception of the most important land use challenges had initially been formulated, using a vulnerability assessment.

At the workshop, representatives of farmers, NGOs, scientist, experts and decision-makers of the agricultural, water, environmental sectors identified possible solutions for the challenges in the region. Due to the professional moderators who managed to separate the problem sphere from the relation sphere of the usually heavily competing water using sectors, around 70 ideas were compiled. The event was characterized by a vivid participation and great mutual interest in the visions of the participants.

The solution approaches developed during the workshop will be – backed by two more workshops - valuated and selected together with the participants and compiled in a regional action plan that will be signed by every participant.
