How can integrated (nexus) strategies for linking food security and sustainable management of water resources be developed? And how can effectiveness and efficiency of water management in agricultural irrigation be increased? These and further questions were discussed by Lena Horlemann and other national and international experts at the Blue Planet Water Dialogues on 19 January 2017.

Lena Horlemann presented results of the two inter 3-led projects in Iran: “IWRM Zayandeh Rud” (BMBF funded) and “Sustainable Land Use and Climate Change Adaptation at the Lower Reaches of the Zayandeh Rud” (BMUB funded). She  discussed current challenges of land and water management and approaches for developing sustainable solutions for water and food production that are applied in the projects.

The Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA), an international conference on central questions concerning the future of the global agri-food industry, took place between January 19 and 21, 2017 in the framework of the International Green Week in Berlin. On the subject: "Agriculture and Water – Key to Feeding the World” it gave representatives from politics, business, science and civil society an opportunity to share ideas and enhance understanding on a selected topic of current agricultural policy.

The Blue Planet Water Dialogues was organized by German Water Partnership e.V. in cooperation with German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB), Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises as well as Messe Berlin GmbH.
