Sustainable urban development: Mannheim and Wuppertal drive social innovations
How can social innovations in the field of building, housing and urban development be brought from the niche to the mainstream? What social innovations are still needed for climate-just cities? These are the exciting questions that the two research institutes inter 3 and the Wuppertal Institute are exploring together with the cities of Mannheim and Wuppertal.
From the niche to the mainstream
In both cities - Mannheim and Wuppertal - there are promising initiatives that bring the potential for social innovation or have already established themselves in niches. inter 3 is using its innovation management toolkit to try out, together with the two cities, if and how such potential social innovations can become (more) broadly effective.
In the best case: Knowing how to do it
Strategic starting points, concrete impulses and measures - what proves to be more or less effective and under which circumstances in order to develop social innovations from the niche to the mainstream? Are there specific strategies and paths for different types of social innovations? Does the innovation management toolkit helps in the dissemination of social innovations?
If it goes well, we can say how it might work. In any case, in both cities two to three social innovations should make the leap from the niche to the mainstream.
